The day I joined Forces United I made contact with a good friend from 38 years ago! We had partied a bit and slept outside on the grass at Bristol Zoo. We heard a lion roar fairly loudly early the next morning and could not remember if we had climbed the fence or not so we did not know whether we were inside or outside the Zoo!!! Needless to say we are both alive! Thanks Forces United for helping to connect us on that unforgettable experience!

A bout three years ago I joined the Forces Reunited And posted my details on their website.Within a short time Jim made contact and we Exchanged emails & reminised about the times we served together, this little band of two grew into a band of five,In june this year my wife & I was able to have a trip to the UK from Australia,it was arranged that the five of us meet with our wifes & parteners at Nth Weald airfield. The people incharge [security] made us most welcome and we were able to visit the sites we once worked with our Sqdn604 a special arrangment was made to open the Museum for us to visit,The weather was perfect and to close a wonderful day two Spitfires done a low level run over the Airfield. Its 39 years since I joined HMForces Army, Catterick camp, I join Forces Reunited and within three weeks I have contacted one of my comrades John Russell who was in the same troop in training, we were both posted out from Catterick and both went our seperate ways. John went to Bunda BAOR I went to 4 Div HQ Sig regt just next door to john but not knowing.we are now contacting one another via Forces reunited/emails and telephone, we are making arrangements to meet its just mindblowing to be able to contact someone after all these years. I am truley glad I joined worth every penny.

Within a few days of joining FR, I was contacted by fellow West Kirby 'inmate'as he called himself. After so many years have passed, it touches a reality that brings those happy go lucky days of 'square bashing' back again. Good work Forces Reunited !!

After being my Best Man in 82 we lost touch, Alfie (Alan) is now coming to Plovdic-Bulgaria, where I live to catch up and have a few Bevvies. His first message was when can he be my Best Man again? He just missed it I got re-married in May this year, DOH! Still we will sink a few pints, as in the Old days from Culdrose, where he still is working. As for how we lost touch, dont all oppo's lose touch at one stage? Hence this great site..Invaluable!!

I lived near to John in Portsmouth and went to the Portsmouth Northern Grammar School with him. I left in 1958 and joined the RAF and served throughout the world for 25 years. I never saw Jihn again then out of the blue after 45 years he contacted me through F.R. to say he married my childhood sweetheart, and joined FR in the hope of finding me. We met up in Weymouth a couple of years ago and stay in touch by phone and e-mail.
